Road marking
The company Via Lines based in Grivegnée is one of the few road marking companies in Wallonia. It specialises in thermoplastic road markings and has been part of the Wanty Group since 2001. Road marking, the last stage in road construction, is a specialist activity requiring both high levels of expertise and specific equipment. As well as road marking, Via Lines teams undertake the painting of logos and signs on private car parks. In winter they also install safety barriers.
Today’s road marking is based either on paint (one year’s guarantee) or on thermoplastic products applied at 200°C. The latter are guaranteed for three years and account for the majority of the work done by Via Lines, which is a specialist in this field. Operations are largely seasonal, as the weather conditions required for road marking are relatively stringent. Recently, however, teams have been able to work through to the end of November and begin again at the end of January.
The ten members of the Via Lines workforce, divided into two teams of machine operators and two teams of manual workers, are highly flexible and are equally able to put down road markings or install safety barriers. In accordance with the public authorities’ wish to reduce road lighting, the company is working on new solutions involving highly reflective road markings, using increasingly advanced technology. Research will eventually lead to hydrocarbon-based thermoplastics being replaced by natural resins.
