Manufacture of bituminous surfaces
In 2006, in order to increase its independence, Wanty joined forces with the company TRBA to construct a high capacity asphalt plant on the Strépy-Braquegnies site, which is able to produce some 300 tonnes an hour. Careful attention is paid to the material going into and leaving the plant, as well as to environmental protection and costs, and under the recycling programme it will shortly be possible to incorporate over 50% of recycled materials into the final mix.
The new asphalt plant, located at the centre of a motorway hub and able to operate round the clock seven days a week, will enable Wanty to take on larger contracts, particularly on the motorway network. Flexibility and speed of production are key concepts for this high performance plant, working to serve both its shareholders and a large number of external customers. In 2008 it will have produced some 220,000 tonnes of asphalt. Substantial investment has been made in advanced technology equipment for the on-site laboratory, in order both to respond to the most rigorous standards of the market and to ensure that all customers receive products of the highest quality.
The recycling line now has a four bin cold feed unit, in order to provide better control of the grain size of the milled material used, the quantity of binder and the binder type contained in the milled material. Frequent sampling for analysis purposes is carried out on the incoming materials, during production, on the finished products and even after the surface has been laid. Since July 2008, Enrobés du Centre has had CE accreditation from the accreditation body AFAQ/AFNOR, certifying its expertise in the manufacture of bitumen surfaces.
Les Enrobés du Centre
The company Enrobés du Centre was established in response to the needs of two companies engaged in public sector civil engineering work in Hainaut and further afield. Wanty had an asphalt plant at Ressaix with a capacity of 100 tonnes/hour. It was built in 1980 and was reaching the end of its life. The TRBA Group of Pérulwelz was also in need of a facility of this type. Rather than each building a small plant, the two groups joined forces to establish Enrobés du Centre.
